The Rural Health Networking Project is a grass-roots effort initiated by the Rural Health Association of Tennessee. The Goal of the Rural Health Networking Project (RHNP) is to improve the quality of health care in rural Tennessee communities by promoting better communication and cooperation by those providing health-related services in rural areas.

The Rural Health Networking Project will use this web site as a tool to facilitate communication, transmit information needed to obtain resources, and develop better ways of caring for people in rural areas. The project is not just this web site, but promoting networking within rural areas in Tennessee. The goal of the project is to help individuals and communities build relationships that result in better systems to deliver good care.

Helping rural populations stay healthy involves unique challenges. Often, needed services are not available locally, and the ability to pay for these services is often limited. For providers in rural areas, services may be poorly reimbursed. Sometimes conventional services are only available from unconventional sources such as churches or community volunteers. The ability of government provided services may not be well publicized in rural areas. To further complicate matters, contact with professional peers may be limited due to geographic isolation and keeping up to date may be difficult.

This project is targeted to anyone involved in helping people in rural communities stay healthy:

Doctors, Nurses, Social Workers, Counselors, Ministers, Paramedics, Volunteers in Service Organizations, as well as anyone involved in larger formal organizations of health care such as hospitals, nursing homes, insurance companies, and pharmaceuticals, and most importantly it is also for patients seeking to help themselves and others.
